This is probably the most important announcement I've had to make regarding ChosenRO. It is a decision that the staff has come to with much thought and consideration, and we've decided that it is for the best.
As of this posting, ChosenRO is scheduled to turn off it's servers at July 13th, 2010, 12:00AM PST.
ChosenRO will not be a continued project.
Now, a lot of you are going to ask 'Why?', and I will give you the honest truth, as well as my best ability to try to answer that question in depth.
A lot of great people have helped us and stuck by us and stayed with us as our server has grown and changed over the many months of it's life.
But the majority, have not appreciated our work, have not thanked us, and have insisted on their problems until they either threaten to leave, or get in our faces about it until we fix it, or whine on the forums about it.
This also does not include the many dozen false reports we get regarding the latest "update" that they didn't think
worked, or that this was broken, etc.
Chosen is one of most heavily modified mid-rates out in existance right now, and almost half to none of the customizations are being used or utilized.
The Jukebox is seldomly used, the Oddball event has never been run unless we started it, and no one has ever used the Bounty Hunter NPC.
As far as the community, I am appaled by what I have seen. Sitting on my legit, I've seen people ask questions, get a rude response from our community, and immediately log out, turned off by our community. And this has happened on more than one occasion.
The community has been stagnating. People leave and a new person replaces them. We haven't grown, and are merely treading water. The community that we've relied on to help grow and foster our community to fill it with members hasn't worked. We've done what we can, but our players and your friends are what makes us happen.
As administrators, we're doing as much as we can: trying to release new content, trying to fix issues as they arise, handling complaints, motivating and keeping in touch with our staff, dealing with in-game behavioral problems, and any inquiries via e-mail, suggestions via forum, and anything else that requires our effort.
Not to mention our staff has put in as many hours as we have: staying up til dark with just as big bags under their eyes as us.
Chosen has been in existence for 9 months. In that time:
-We've never broken 100 players
-Our reviews on Ratemyserver.net, even after putting in an hourly announcer to remind players to review us, made our footing in the top 10 unsure and defense at our spot, very weak. At the time I removed us from the listing, we had dropped out of the top 10.
-The Community to new comers and people in-game has been acidic (at least, from what I've seen, I know you guys are awesome on the forums).
-Our voting has gone down. We used to be #25 on ROTop100, now we've hit below 50. We've gone down and you guys got items for voting.
In the last month, we've been unable to even create any more custom content, due to the amount of reports we've received and the 30 or so odd e-mails I've gotten that have flooded our inbox regarding last months update.
In conclusion, we feel that our time and energy, is being invested into a server that goes unappreciated by the masses and does not have promise of growing, and because of that, we'd rather move on to our own personal projects.
It has been a wonderful experience, serving as your administrator, and I am deeply sorry for the disappointment I have caused you: I did not intend for Chosen to end now, but it is best to end it now, rather than to end it abruptly without warning, both Michy and I fully frustrated beyond our means to even give ample warning.
Once again, I'm terribly sorry for any disappointment and anger you may have. When I founded Chosen, I wished for it to be a haven for those who've been disappointed by other server admins before them. And for that, I'm truly sorry, for I've failed you in that regard.
If, in the off-chance, Michy and I do decide to recreate Chosen or another RO server, please leave your email if you still have faith in us. And if that chance happens, you'll be the first to know.
I am lucky to have had you as my players: you've given me so many awesome memories, I've learned a lot fixing your problems, listening to your stories, and watching you play my version of Ragnarok. I couldn't have asked for more. And I just want to say 'Thank you for everything'.
